Lots and lots of you have probably known about this, but I just want to clarify it again, if you don’t mind. This year CNN has started yet again its campaign of choosing this year hero among the contestants from all over the world. Well, it has existed for a long time, but what makes this year surprising and captivating for us Cambodians is that one of our people has finally made it to the top ten! His name is Oeun Yak (អឿន យក្ស), aka Aki Ra. He was among the people who planted mines all over Cambodia during the Dark Era (Khmer Rouge), and now he’s doing volunteer work in demining in many provinces along the border. In fact, he didn’t even know that he was chosen as a contestant. It was William Morse, President at Landmine Relief Fund, who registered Aki Ra for the show.

Well, like people usually say, Khmer people have to help Khmer, right? So, let each of us give him a vote to support him so he may have the chance to be this year CNN Hero. If you’d like to vote, click here. Also, you can vote for more than one person, so feel free to vote for the any of the other nine. Just don’t forget to vote for our Khmer guy! 😀 So, what are you waiting? Let’s have a vote!
Note: Voting continues until Thursday November 18, 2010 (6 a.m. ET), which is about 5 a.m. here.
